An
extensive TRAINZ layout based on DEM (electronic Map Data) from the heart of New Zealands
"Lord of the Rings" country.
The layout is approximately
45 km long starting from a mainline terminal near the main sawmill and, after hugging a
rugged coast, heads in-land to various valley and high country logging camps.
While the terrain is DEM
based on New Zealand's South Island terrain it is NOT a prototypical logging line and
contains various mixes of logging practice. The coastal trestle line is based on New
Zealands Piha Bush Tramway - a real Logging line that hugged a rugged coast and could only
be used at low tide (this line functioned on and off over a period of about 70 years) |

What
amazes me me about Murchison County is, that for all the detail, it runs as smooth as
silk. Incredible job

MURCHISON COUNTY ROUTE
Computer
Specifications |
LAYOUT BUILDING COMPUTER
MURCHISON LOGGING
layout was built on a computer with the following specs:
| 1600+ AMD CPU |
| 256 MB ram |
| GForce 3 video card (running at 1280 x 960
res) |
The layouts makes advanced
use of textures to realistically simulate the bush country and reduce impact on video
frame rates. However, to increase the sense of realism, model trees have been added
to the FULL VERSION. These have been strategically placed to minimise the impact on the
CPU.
LOW-SPEC
TEST COMPUTER
The Full "treed"
UTC version was tested on the following Low spec computer with reasonable results but, if
you have a low-spec computer, you will probably find the low-poly version a better option.
| 600 P3 pentium |
| 384 MB ram |
| GForce 2 video card (running at 1024 x 768
res) |
| TRAINZ settings at default |
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that this is a marrow
gauge logging route. As such it has steeper than normal inclines (generally 3-5 degrees
but sometimes up to 6 degrees) and sharper curves.
The layout is designed for slow bush
lockeys such as Narrow Gauges Climax, Prowlers Shay, Whecsailors Dunkirk and Dirk
Mewes Heisler that travel between 10-20 km\hr full speed.
Please don't get niggly at the lack of
speed signs and signals - this is a rough and ready early 1900's bush line - where
innovation and improvisation where the rule.
